Dental Bridges

An Oral Health Investment You Can Feel Confident About

Our skilled team at Burgess & Hyder perform high-quality dental bridges to fix an artificial tooth in place with the support of the neighbouring natural teeth.

What are Dental Bridges?

A solution that bridges a gap between teeth that is caused by a missing tooth. Dental bridges are comprised of an artificial tooth that is bonded to the remaining teeth on either side. Depending on the health of these anchor teeth, we either achieve this through adding crowns on to the natural teeth or an adhesive bridge, which is the bonding of ‘wings’ to the inner surfaces of the supporting teeth. This method is possible if these teeth are strong and it avoids any harm to them.

There are three main types of dental bridge:

Traditional

This is the most common method which uses a tooth each side of the gap to act as the anchor for the artificial tooth.

Cantilever

This method requires only one natural tooth next to the missing tooth, which would be fitted with the crown.

Maryland

Like the traditional, the Maryland bridge requires two natural teeth either side of the gap. However, instead of using crowns, a framework is bonded onto the backs of these anchor teeth.

Alternative private treatment options for missing teeth include implants.

Benefits of Dental Bridges:

Dental bridges offer a non-surgical option for replacing any missing teeth. Filling this gap ensures that the lost tooth doesn’t cause further oral health complications, including movement of remaining teeth, impacts your bite or decay.

They will also boost your confidence, giving you a smile you can be proud of and make everyday activities, such as talking and eating, significantly easier.

What’s Involved in a Dental Bridges Procedure?

At Burgess & Hyder Dental Group, our experienced dental bridges team is supported by our own in-house laboratory and uses only the best equipment and materials to ensure you have the best possible care and experience. The procedure involves:

  • After the initial consultation, the specialist will take an impression of your teeth in order to create the custom-made bridge.
  • Our lab technicians will then work on crafting the bridge to the exact shade and specifications outlined by the dentist. In the meantime, the dentist may fit a temporary solution.
  • After two weeks, you’ll return to the clinic to have the new bridge fitted. It will be bonded into place once the dentist has ensured it is comfortable and that it is not impacting your bite position. The hygienist or dentist will then demonstrate how to floss and care for the bridge to ensure it remains in good condition.
